Radios, Aerials & new ideas

Having not been here for some time I felt it was time to update this page. I have recently revived an old interest in Amateur Radio and have taken the Foundation Exam. I now have a call sign which is M3VDE. I felt this was appropriate as the (German) VDE is the organisation that is looked to for the lead in testing and certifying much of the equipment that I use on a daily basis.

Today I am trying to combine research into aerial tuners with some preparation for my carving class that I teach on a Wednesday. We are going to look at sharpening of tools and I want to create some aids that show why getting the correct grinding angle and then honing the tool is important.

MDU Progress - First look at water leak

Various issues that have come to light after an initial cursory inspection!

Roof has been previously bodged with Silicone. This needs cleaning off and some additional (incorrect type) pop rivets need to be replaced. Once this has been done I am sure flashband is the answer but it may be necessary to remove the roof runners for the pull out canopy to get the flashband to lie correctly across the joins.

The ceiling panels on the inside are very wet. In this weather they will not dry out and there is a musty smell in the van that I think is coming from this dampness. Once the external bit of the roof is done I think it may dry with serious heating but it realy need the ceiling taking down and replacing.

Both the back corners have been damaged by the water leak. We know about the one by the side display door but the rear panel is also de-laminating. Whilst this is not a problem in itself, the rear door, that I pointed out had a gap at the top, will not fit properly as it is the rear panel that has a bend in it. I'm thinking about the answer to this one as it is both a structural and a security issue. I think it may have been a previous illegal entry attempt that has weakened the frame. At the moment it looks like the answer is to insert an aluminium post to straighten and support the edge.

This Weekend!

Collected MDU from Fareham and drove it home. Parked in drive and sorted out other vehicles to make space. It looks like it will need a lot of work as the roof has been bodged before and the rear panel is bent at the door frame so the rear door does not fit well. That is before the real problem of the side display door opening panel.
